Sidoti Takes Command of the Micro-Cap Space
15 dedicated analysts; 170 names already under coverage.
New website to be unveiled soon.
NEW YORK, Aug. 17, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- Sidoti & Co., LLC's micro-cap research initiative is far and away Wall Street's most ambitious, best-developed, and comprehensive effort aimed to bring proper attention to this underserved group of equities. Twelve years ago, Sidoti began establishing itself as frontrunner in small and mid-cap research. The firm grew and flourished, adding a trading desk, hiring 35 sales/traders, building a research team of nearly 60 analysts, and boosting the number of small-cap names covered to almost 500.
Early in 2010, the firm turned to micro-caps, a sector that the Street largely ignores because of liquidity issues and trading concerns. Sidoti maintains that many micro-cap companies have solid fundamentals and/or unique growth catalysts, and is steadily persuading investors that the group contains superior investment opportunities.
Step one in Sidoti's micro-cap effort was to hire five analysts who would focus solely on the sector, working independently of the firm's 60 small-cap equities analysts. Within 18 months, Sidoti added ten more analysts to the group, building the team to 15. Sidoti's coverage of sub-$200 million market capitalization companies now includes 170 names, almost all formerly under Wall Street's radar. Coverage is widened constantly, and Sidoti's plan is to formally monitor 600 micro-cap names by year-end 2012.
Step two was the firm's first Micro-Cap Conference, in January 2011, which proved so popular that Sidoti now hosts two such conferences each year, in January and June. At these gatherings, managements of carefully vetted companies explain to the investor audience just how their organization makes money, where it has broken new ground, what distinguishes it from rivals, and why it is a worthy investment. Sidoti is particularly interested in presenters that have sound fundamentals and intriguing stories, show fast growth and profitability, or otherwise hold great promise, yet are largely unknown to investors. Sidoti's conferences are highly collaborative, with presenters meeting one-on-one with a group of smart and deeply curious investors. The next Sidoti Micro-Cap Conference will take place on January 9, 2012, at the Hyatt Hotel in Midtown Manhattan.
Step three was Sidoti's establishment of Sidoti 24/7 Conference, a 'round-the-clock "online conference center" that will highlight hundreds of micro-cap companies. Sidoti 24/7 will provide online viewers with robust market intelligence and company-specific presentations that include breaking news, corporate videos, intraday stock charts and quotes, and investor presentations. Sidoti's goal is to create an online platform to increase visibility and investor awareness of micro-cap companies, while providing the most user-friendly, interactive tools available for investors to access this information.
With time, the firm expects to enhance its coverage of the micro-cap sector with new analysts, new coverage, more conferences, and a website that is the go-to spot for all information pertaining to micro-caps. Small wonder that Sidoti & Co., LLC is already known as "the axe" in this space!
