Siemens Enterprise Communications' UC Suite 2011 Removes Barriers to Enterprise Collaboration
Affordable, Efficient and Innovative New Paths to Multimedia Collaboration Help Enterprises Improve Productivity and Reduce Costs
RESTON, Va., Dec. 7, 2010 /PRNewswire/ -- In a move to overcome the cost and complexity barriers to enterprise collaboration, today's Siemens Enterprise Communications announcement makes rich, enterprise-grade, multimedia collaboration solutions as simple to use as sending an email. Unlike the complex, proprietary solutions on the market today, the OpenScape UC Suite 2011 is a unique open solution that makes multimedia collaboration more affordable, easier to use and faster to deploy for businesses of all sizes. The OpenScape UC Suite includes a comprehensive set of collaboration, mobility, video and other tools to securely and reliably deliver improved productivity and significant cost savings to enterprises.
The OpenScape UC Suite includes the new OpenScape Web Collaboration, an enterprise-grade web conferencing solution providing rich multimedia collaboration that enhances collaboration, improves productivity, and reduces communication costs. It can be installed on one server in as little as an hour, and offers "one-click collaboration", allowing users to move seamlessly between web, chat and multi-party desktop video conferencing with a single mouse click. It requires no client installation, low infrastructure commitment, and no server downtime for upgrades, making it easy and cost-effective to deploy and manage with minimal IT resource requirements. OpenScape Web Collaboration leverages technology from FastViewer GmbH & Co., which recently entered into an agreement to be acquired by Siemens Enterprise Communications.
Enterprises looking to deploy an affordable collaboration solution often consider inexpensive consumer-grade solutions, but OpenScape Web Collaboration offers the reliability, security and scalability that enterprises need, offering advanced encryption, password-protected web sessions and virtually unlimited scalability via cascading server architecture. Plus, it can be deployed either on premise or as a hosted solution, providing greater flexibility and simplified management.
"Orlando Utilities Commission (OUC) has multiple facilities in Central Florida, and our employees would frequently need to travel between sites for meetings. With OpenScape Web Collaboration, it's easy for employees to collaborate online and conduct business from wherever they are," said Jeff Rose, director of information systems, OUC. "This has improved productivity by eliminating lost time commuting between facilities; reduced costs associated with traveling to these meetings; and provided a more environmentally friendly way to communicate rather than driving from place to place. Plus, in critical situations where we need to convene an incident response team or key group of individuals, the system can automatically locate and bring them together quickly into a productive web conference."
The new OpenScape UC Suite 2011 also includes:
- OpenScape PhoneApps, a new solution to deliver packaged and custom productivity and collaboration applications to OpenStage phones, with integration with OpenScape applications. It also includes an open developer toolkit for additional customization or building new PhoneApps.
- Updates to OpenScape Video, now offering expanded integration and dialing plan unification with major video ecosystems from solution partners such as Polycom, Tandberg and Lifesize, as well as interoperable standards-based Hi-Definition (H.264) video conferencing at the OpenScape desktop client.
- OpenScape Mobility, which now includes an expanded range of mobile collaboration clients, including for the iPad and iPhone, in addition to existing fixed-mobile convergence, WLAN and mobile UC solutions.
The OpenScape UC Suite provides a comprehensive package of communication and collaboration capabilities that can be quickly, easily and affordably integrated into any enterprise's UC deployment. OpenScape UC Suite offers the reliability and security enterprises require, and because it is based on open standards it offers a practical alternative to more complex, proprietary solutions.
"Enterprises are turning to Unified Communications and Collaboration to reduce communication costs, reduce cost of ownership, improve productivity, and sustain competitive advantage," said Melanie Turek, industry director, enterprise communications at Frost and Sullivan. "UCC systems that are open, fast, and easy to deploy, while still being enterprise-grade, comprehensive, and secure, are best able to deliver the value that enterprises are looking for. With this announcement, Siemens clearly understands those requirements."
"Unified Communication and Collaboration (UCC) can enable businesses to dramatically improve productivity, efficiency and cost savings, but many are reluctant to move forward with the overly complex, expensive, proprietary offerings available today," said Chris Hummel, chief marketing officer at Siemens Enterprise Communications. "OpenScape UC Suite means that rich, enterprise-grade collaboration is now practical and affordable for any business."
