Sigma Labs, Inc. Strengthens Its Intellectual Property Position Through New Patent Award And Patent Filing
SANTA FE, N.M., Dec. 12, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- Sigma Labs, Inc. (OTCBB: SGLB) announced today that it has expanded and enhanced its intellectual property and patent portfolio. Sigma Labs was recently awarded a patent involving the monitoring and control of fusion processes including those found in Additive Metal Manufacturing (AMM) and 3D printing. Mark Cola, President and Chief Executive Officer of Sigma Labs, stated that "this AMM-related patent will allow us to better position our PrintRite3D™ series of hardware and software products for additive metal manufacturing and 3D printing."
Sigma Labs also filed an international patent application protecting its biomedical technology for treating medical implants so as to promote protein adsorption and osseointegration, a process that results in the direct anchorage of an implant to the surrounding bone. Furthermore, the results of recent tests completed at Sandia National Laboratories appear to indicate that specially treated implants with Sigma Labs' patent-pending technology show an increase in the ability of proteins to bind to the implant surfaces as compared to untreated baseline implants. Vivek Dave, Executive Vice President for Business Development at Sigma Labs stated that, "we feel that this international patent filing will ensure our ability to provide industry-leading, competitive products and services for several biomedical prosthetic fields."
Mr. Cola added that, "the company currently is exploring the formation of joint venture relationships where appropriate." There can be no assurance, however, that Sigma Labs will enter into any joint ventures.
