Simply Electronics: Consumers Drive the Electronics Industry
NEW YORK, Aug. 28, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- In a partnership with Verizon, Samsung recently announced the availability of the FiOS TV app on compatible Samsung Smart TV™ and Smart Blu-ray™ products. As a leading online retailer of consumer electronics, Simply Electronics responds to the revolutionary platform.
In recent years, innovative technology has allowed many media outlets to offer content in a vast majority of ways. Although many consumers are used to watching televised content through their cable or satellite provider, an increasing number of Americans have come to rely on Internet to deliver programming. For instance, Apple and Amazon have offered individual TV episode purchases for download and Netflix and Hulu have grown extensive libraries for both movie and television titles for instant streaming. However, the concept of "live" television through the Internet is one that many networks and digital media providers have stayed away from in fear of losing viewership—and profits—over exclusive content. As a company specializing in the retail sale of a variety of electronic products, Simply Electronics explains that while many companies have avoided streaming live content through the Internet, rising consumer interest has caused major brands to reconsider the technology.
According to a recent article from The Wall Street Journal, Samsung has recently unveiled technology that allows Verizon FiOS subscribers to enjoy both streaming live and on-demand content through specified products. Delivered through a unique application, the article notes that Samsung's new development is the first of its kind. It states, "The Samsung Smart Hub platform lets Verizon's FiOS TV and FiOS Internet subscribers watch 26 live FiOS TV channels and more than 20,000 FlexView on-demand movies and TV shows on these TVs and blu-ray players without requiring a set-top box. This furthers both Samsung's and Verizon's commitment to developing ways to help consumers enjoy 'TV Everywhere.' Verizon is the first TV provider in the US to offer video content directly through Samsung's Smart Hub App Store."
Although the technology to create these programming options has existed for quite some time, Simply Electronics notes that only recently have major brands considered breaking into the market. In a recent press statement, Simply Electronics explains this trend, "Even now we see Apple are moving away from their reluctance to enter the television market—even if it means losing control of the content—with past news stating the company is in talks with cable companies so they can do the same thing. With Samsung also recognizing such consumer-driven demand, they are trying to bring this technology to the market first." While the technology may be limited, Simply Electronics expects that the market will experience significant expansion. The retailer is committed to supplying consumers with the latest electronics to help enjoy this form of growing entertainment.
