Six Artificial Intelligence Companies Chosen to Visit Spain
MADRID, July 2, 2018 /PRNewswire/ -- The Spain China Foundation (Fundación Consejo España China), an institution backed by the Spanish Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation, selected six Chinese companies to promote an Artificial Intelligence knowledge exchange between Spain and China.
Through the Future Chinese Leaders Program (Programa Futuros Líderes Chinos)--which held its 12th edition from June 10-15, 2018--six representatives from leading Chinese companies in the Artificial Intelligence field (iFLYTEK, YIXUE Education, Malong Technologies, MetroDataTech, EIN Plus, Wood AI) visited Spain. They made technical visits to large Spanish corporations such as Telefónica, one of the largest telecommunications companies in the world, and BBVA, a world leader in mobile banking. They also met with top-level Spanish researchers from the Universidad Politécnica de Madrid, the Artificial Intelligence Institute of Barcelona - Spanish Council for Scientific Research (Instituto de Inteligencia Artificial de Barcelona - CSIC), and the Barcelona Supercomputing Center (Centro Nacional de Supercomputación de Barcelona).
The Program was held in the cities of Madrid and Barcelona. Thanks to the support of the prestigious IE Business School in Madrid and ESADE Business School in Barcelona, the program also included a series of meetings with local startups such as source{d}, which works with clients like Huawei and Google.
In order to introduce the Spanish public to the advancements these companies are making in China, the Foundation organized the forum "Artificial Intelligence: Spain-China dialogues for the society of the future." Prominent public figures from trade and economic relations between the two countries were in attendance.
During her time in Spain, Lan Du, senior vice president of iFlytek, explained that the potential and various applications of Artificial Intelligence may be one of the factors that bring China and Spain closer together in the future. The company, which holds 75% of the voice recognition market share in China, hopes that the next advancements in Artificial Intelligence will provide opportunities for the two countries to collaborate while improving bilateral relations. In this respect, Du pointed out that Spanish is a great business opportunity for their company, as it is the second most spoken language in the world.
Richard Jiarui Tong, chief architect of Squirrel AI Adaptive Learning and general manager of US AI Labs at Yixue Education, introduced the Artificial Intelligence technology as applied to K-12 education in China. Yixue, with headquarter in Shanghai and more than 800 physical learning centers in 100+ cities throughout China, is using AI technology to deliver the market leading Squirrel AI Adaptive Education service that has been proven to be more efficient, higher quality, and more accessible to K-12 students in both offline and online schools in China. Richard Tong explained the AI technology, the service model, the growth model, and the adaptive education advantage at the forum and discussed potential AI technology collaborations with Spanish education and research institutions such as the IE Business School, ESADE Business School and the Universidad Politécnica de Madrid.
During his participation in the program, Shoukun Wang, CEO and founder of EIN Plus, said that "Artificial Intelligence may help us generate income and growth while helping others be more intelligent." His company is a leader in the development of virtual assistants and chatbot technology in China.
In addition, Yubei Ke, director of international business development at Malong Technologies, presented his company's visual recognition software in Spain. The software captures an image and then identifies who it is or what product it is. Ke also stated that Spain is an interesting market in which to develop Artificial Intelligence and pointed out that the visit was useful for meeting potential local partners.
Zongliang Feng, Forbes 30 under 30, partner at MetroDataTech, shared how his company's product enables timely, effective investment and management decisions through an automated platform that integrates large and disparate data sources, proprietary algorithms and scoring models to help standardize due diligence and risk assessment processes for clients. His company specializes in the application of big data and AI tech in real estate, new retail and government sectors and provides service in 30+ cities.
Lei Ding, founder and CEO of Wood AI, made the most of his visit to Spain by presenting the opportunities that Artificial Intelligence has to offer to the fields of sustainability and natural resource management. His company is a startup that uses visual recognition AI in the lumber industry.
