SK Stiftung Kultur: The August Sander Estate Remains in Cologne
COLOGNE, Germany, February 16, 2017 /PRNewswire/ --
The SK Stiftung Kultur in Cologne has taken note of Gallery Hauser & Wirth's press information, announcing a co-operation with Julian Sander, August Sander's great grandson, as follows: "Hauser & Wirth is pleased to announce its worldwide representation of the Estate of August Sander in collaboration with the artist's great grandson Julian Sander of Galerie Julian Sander, Cologne." Alternatively labeled as Family Estate of August Sander.
The response of the SK Stiftung Kultur is as follows:
In 1992 the Kulturstiftung der Stadtsparkasse Köln, now Die Photographische Sammlung/SK Stiftung Kultur of Sparkasse KölnBonn, bought the Estate of August Sander, which was sold by Gerd Sander, the photographer's grandson and father of Julian Sander, who runs a gallery in Cologne.
This original Estate - the August Sander Archive -, received by the SK Stiftung Kultur in 1992, comprises 10,700 original negatives, ca. 3,500 vintage prints, the artist's original correspondence, library, furniture and photographic equipment. Since then the institution has been taking care of the Estate, increasing the number of vintages etc. through aquisitions. Die Photographische Sammlung/SK Stiftung Kultur follows its aim to carry out scholarly research into the complete works of the artist, present them to the public in exhibitions/publications, and preserve them for posterity. SK Stiftung Kultur also purchased the unrestricted rights of use in regard to location, content and time, therefore they are in the possession of SK Stiftung Kultur - the representative of the Estate of August Sander.
