SAN FRANCISCO, Jan. 15, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- Traveling the world is easier than ever for tech-savvy Millennials who rely on mobile apps to facilitate everything from finding a place to stay to meeting new friends in different cities. Skout, the leading global app that helps you meet new people and expand your social circle, shared today that its newest and most popular feature, Skout Travel, has been used more than 10 million times since it launched less than 15 months ago.

"Our goal at Skout is to help users create and be a part of a community, no matter where they are located at any given time. While Skout is not exclusively a travel app, our Travel feature has proven to be enormously popular with young adults who want to experience the world and connect with new friends," said Christian Wiklund, co-founder and CEO of Skout.

Skout recently took a look at who is using its Travel feature and where they are (virtually) going, and data found that:

  • Women are most likely to virtually travel. Women on Skout are nearly twice as likely as men to use the app's Travel feature to meet new friends in new cities.
  • The coasts top the U.S. destinations list. The top 5 cities in the U.S. visited by Skouters in the past year include Miami, San Francisco, Seattle, Los Angeles and New York.
  • The #1 international destination for virtual travel is…Hong Kong, followed by Sao Paulo, London, Seoul and Sydney.

Skout's popular Travel feature is one of many within the app that helps Skouters meet new friends and have fun anywhere, anytime. With Skout Travel, users can select a destination or search for a city anywhere in the world and are instantly connected. Once connected to their destination, users can start conversations, develop relationships or even make real-life plans for upcoming trips.

To celebrate surpassing 10 million journeys through its Travel feature, Skout is making it free to use for 48 hours, beginning January 15 through January 17, 2015. The Travel feature typically requires users to spend 25 points for each trip they take.
