Slate Desktop Brings Big Data Cloud Technology To the Windows Desktop
SINGAPORE, Oct. 9, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- Precision Translation Tools (PTTools) announces Slate Desktop, an entirely new category of Windows productivity software for professional translators, complete with a translation engine. Slate migrates big data Cloud technology to Windows PCs where translators customize the engine for higher productivity.

"We designed Slate Desktop as a suite of productivity applications for professional translators and localization engineers." says Tom Hoar, co-founder of PTTools. "People without specialty MT (machine translation) skills can quickly learn to convert their TMs (translation memories or databases) to an engine, typically overnight. Their choice of TMs determine whether the engine is customized to a specific product or personalized to a translator's style."
The underlying Moses SMT (statistical MT) toolkit is not new. For almost 10 years, service providers with MT specialists have designed expensive Moses applications on Linux computers and sold MT services to customers via the Cloud. Tom Hoar continues:
"Slate Desktop is new because it brings SMT to Windows desktop for the first time. Without the Linux constraint, our new applications designed for professional translators offer a degree of confidentiality and customization – dare I say 'personalization' – that's just not possible through the Cloud."
Slate Desktop saves draft translations to TMs or integrates with CAT (computer assisted translation) editing applications via connectors like any other MT provider. Translators spend less time proofreading and correcting drafts because Slate Desktop uses the terminology, spelling and style it learned from the TMs. Just as importantly, confidentiality concerns associated with Cloud-based translation engines disappear because Slate Desktop works without the Internet.
To gauge the market for this radically new product design, PTTools is looking for backers to participate in market research. PTTools is using an Indiegogo campaign to measure the market's readiness for this entirely new category of productivity software. The Indiegogo campaign offers exclusive discounts before product launch in January 2016, and gives the market a voice in Slate Desktop's final feature set. Finally, Indiegogo's transparency gives backers insight and confidence in the product launch cycle.
Visit our Indiegogo campaign before the discount offers expire on October 30, 2016.
