Small Cell to be Main Driver of Growth for Overall RAN Market in 2016
REDWOOD CITY, Calif., Feb. 19, 2016 /PRNewswire/ -- A recently published report from Dell'Oro Group, the trusted source for market information about the telecommunications, networks, and data center IT industries, revealed that non-residential Small Cell market approached $1 B, more than doubling in 2015 after tripling in 2014.
"China and the Asia Pacific region were major drivers of the surge in small cells in 2015 but what was interesting was the demand for small cell equipment was greater than we had expected outside of China as well," said Stefan Pongratz, analyst at Dell'Oro Group. "This reflects a change in the general attitude toward small cell and the role this technology will play as the carriers have exhausted all viable options on the macro network," added Pongratz.
The report also shows the indoor small cell market improved at a faster pace than the outdoor market in 2015. Indoor small cells accounted for the greatest portion of the shipments, yet outdoor small cells accounted for the majority of the revenues.
