CHICAGO, June 12, 2017 /PRNewswire/ -- On the heels of launching Southern Cut Barbecue in Chicago's Gold Coast, proprietors and co-owners David Flom and Matt Moore are opening a sister enterprise, Southern Cut Barbecue Café at 20 W. Kinzie, on Tuesday, June 20. This 30-seat eatery, which claims adjoining space to sister restaurant Ocean Cut, will share menu favorites with the main Southern Cut Barbecue property in an environment that caters to a corporate clientele.
Southern Cut Barbecue Café will be overseen by Southern Cut Barbecue's award-winning Executive Chef Lee Ann Whippen, America's most famous pitmaster, barbecue expert, and star of TLC's "BBQ Pitmasters." The Café will offer the most popular items from Southern Cut Barbecue, bringing the same wood-smoked meats, Whippen's "pig powder" seasoning and southern flavors from the main location in a scaled-back menu.
"We've been hearing from customers that they wished Southern Cut Barbecue was closer to the financial district," said Flom. "We did some investigating and are excited to bring authentic southern barbecue in a quick-meal, take-out setting. We have discovered that the quality of the meat is a huge differentiator from other barbecue restaurants, so we will be smoking our meat every day at our main location and bringing it to the café on Kinzie."
The menu intentionally considers the busy office workers who want hearty, fresh, reasonably priced food but don't have time for a high-end white-tablecloth experience. The menu consists of five soup/salad options, four sandwiches, ribs and smoked meats, and a variety of sides and desserts. Highlights include Lee Ann's Championship Baby Back Ribs and the wildly popular Pitmaster Sandwich, which tops pulled pork, brisket and smoked chicken with coleslaw, pickled onions, fried jalapeños and wild mustard sauce. Southern Cut Barbecue Café will be open weekdays – Monday through Friday from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. Take-out is available as well as delivery via GrubHub as far as the West Loop, Lincoln Park and Congress Parkway.
The restaurant's first original location in the Gold Coast at 198 E. Delaware opened to rave reviews from customers and critics in March 2017 and is frequently packed with both locals, Hilton hotel guests and a corporate clientele during lunch and dinner service.
