SMU Cox Executive Education Wins CLO Magazine Award for Work with NHCC
DALLAS, Sept. 21, 2012 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- SMU Cox Executive Education was presented the silver Learning in Practice award for Excellence in Academic Partnerships by Chief Learning Officer magazine at a special ceremony on September 19th at the Fall 2012 Chief Learning Officer Symposium. SMU Cox Executive Education was selected for its work with the National Hispanic Corporate Council (NHCC) in developing the corporate executive development program for Hispanic managers and executives.
These national awards are presented annually to individual learning practitioners/executives and provider organizations that have helped their own or their client organization enhance performance and meet business objectives through outstanding learning initiatives. The judges for the awards represent a number of significant national corporations. CLO magazine received a record number of entries this year.
SMU Cox Executive Education and the NHCC collaborated in designing and implementing a unique leadership development program for Hispanic individuals identified by their corporate employers as potential executives for leadership roles. The 9-month experience combines 3 ½ day business and leadership coursework modules at SMU in September, January and May with nationally recognized SMU Cox faculty and corporate leaders, personal business development plans, individual Hispanic leader mentors and sponsors, special program projects and on-going development support at their jobs between these modules. Many of the program graduates have already progressed to executive positions with Fortune 1000 companies.
"There is a significant opportunity to meet the leadership needs of today's organizations by growing the Hispanic executive talent pool. This is a great tribute to the people involved in the program from the NHCC and SMU Cox," said Frank Lloyd, Associate Dean, Executive Education, SMU Cox School of Business. "This is the only development program of its kind created through the collaboration of an academic institution and an effective Hispanic corporate networking organization."
"The NHCC acknowledged that there was a need to increase the number of talented Hispanics in the executive levels in corporate America," said NHCC President Pat Martinez. "The NHCC CEDP is giving program participants, members of the fastest growing demographic in the country, the competitiveness to lead their industry and their future. The CEDP represents an on-going collaborative partnership between the NHCC and SMU Cox that is successfully meeting the challenge of executive development for Hispanic hi-potentials."
