LOS ANGELES, April 10, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- April is Earth Month and Southern California Gas Co. (SoCalGas) and its employees are teaming up with five nonprofit groups that focus on environmental conservation to take part in upcoming events throughout the region. Starting this week, employees, their friends and family will join other volunteers at parks, beaches and lagoons throughout Southern California to pull weeds, pick up trash, and perform other tasks. The utility has also donated a total of $25,000 to the groups for these events and their other efforts. The groups include: The Friends of Channel Coast Beaches, Arroyo Seco Foundation, Bolsa Chica Conservancy, Friends of Ballona Wetlands and Heal the Bay.
"SoCalGas is as committed as each of these groups in helping to improve our environment and the work these nonprofits do is very important to the wildlife and visitors that frequent these areas. Their work is also crucial to future generations to come," said Denita Willoughby, regional vice president of external affairs and employee communications for SoCalGas.
"We're so pleased to have the support of SoCalGas and its employees in our efforts to help sustain Bolsa Chica for its wildlife and for the public to learn more about the diversity of our wetlands," said Grace Adams, executive director of the Bolsa Chica Conservancy.
