Social and Emotional Learning Grant Opportunity for Schools
Mayerson Academy Launches RFP to Help Build Positive School Cultures
CINCINNATI, March 28, 2016 /PRNewswire/ -- Mayerson Academy, a non-profit provider of professional development services in the education sector, announced today the launch of a Request for Proposal (RFP) designed to help schools utilize the science of character strengths and social and emotional learning competencies to transform school cultures for student success. RFP winners will each have the opportunity to receive $10,000 + worth of professional learning services, tools and products, everything they need to create a Thriving Learning Community in their school.
Today's students are experiencing a turbulent and demanding world which they bring with them into the classroom, making it more challenging than ever for education leaders to create the positive learning environments critical to student success. Fortunately, research is beginning to illuminate powerful solutions to this challenge, and education policy is starting to reflect this new knowledge with the Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA), which acknowledges the critical role of school climate and social and emotional learning in student success.
"So many schools across the nation have approached us eager to begin this work," said Jillian Darwish, Ed.D., President of Mayerson Academy. "With generous support from The Carol Ann and Ralph V. Haile, Jr./U.S. Bank Foundation and an anonymous donor of the Greater Cincinnati Foundation, qualifying schools who recognize the value of creating a positive school culture will have the opportunity, toolset and the expert guidance to help create an environment where all learners thrive."
Grant recipients will participate in a Champions Institute June 27 - 29th at the renowned Mayerson Academy in Cincinnati, Ohio. This engaging three-day learning experience will immerse participants in the Thriving Learning Communities program and prepare them to return to their schools to implement a comprehensive blended learning curriculum with tools, resources and ongoing support to ensure success.
"So much energy today seems devoted to solving what is wrong with our students that we often forget to celebrate what is inherently good about each and every one of them," said Lynn Ochs, Senior Learning Designer for Mayerson Academy. "When adults begin to view their students and the entire school community from a place of strength instead of weakness, many positive outcomes begin to emerge including significant positive impact on student motivation, engagement, learning and performance."
The RFP is open to U.S. public, private, or parochial middle or preK-8 schools committed to accelerating motivation, collaboration, learning and performance in grades 5-8. A link for the grant application is live on the Mayerson Academy website at http://www.mayersonacademy.org/. Deadline for all submissions is 11 PM EDT on April 29, 2016. Awardees will be announced on May 5, 2016.
