Socorro Independent School District Launches Anonymous Alerts Anti-Bullying Student Reporting Service Across 45 Campuses Students and parents can submit anonymous messages via customized mobile apps on Android and Apple devices or through a Web-based system
EL PASO, Texas, Oct. 8, 2013 /PRNewswire/ -- The Socorro Independent School District has added a new communications tool called Anonymous Alerts®, allowing its 44,000 students to quickly, easily, and anonymously report urgent information to school officials across their 45 school campuses. The system encourages students, parents and staff to confidentially report bullying, gang-related issues and other sensitive topics through private messages sent on their mobile and computer Internet-enabled devices. Socorro ISD is the latest in a string of districts and schools in Texas that have adopted the Anonymous Alerts® confidential student reporting service.
"Our top priority is student safety and providing our student community with mobile and web-based tools to quickly reach out about sensitive issues," said Fernando Vasquez, Assistant Director of State and Federal Programs. "Our students can open up anonymous 1-way or 2-way conversations with our Principals through private messages, while protecting their identity, therefore prohibiting peer retaliation."
In addition to Web-based reporting, Socorro ISD has also turned on Anonymous Alerts® customized iPhone and Android apps. Students, parents and staff can download the apps for free and enable them with a simple code for always on reporting to school officials. The mobile apps and Web-based reporting system provides secure 1-way or 2-way encrypted messages, increasing the flow of urgent information to school officials. Message topics for submission may include student bullying, cyber-bullying, family difficulties, self-harm/cutting, drug and alcohol abuse, student depression, sexual harassment, gang related issues or unusual student behavior.
Anyone wishing to submit information anonymously can visit Socorro ISD's website at www.sisd.net/Page/22805 using any Internet-enabled device and clicking on the "Report Bullying" link. The Anonymous Alerts® mobile applications can be downloaded directly from the iPhone app store and the Android app from Google Play store. Students are supplied a simple login and password from the district to activate the mobile apps, displayed on posters throughout the district. All reports remain anonymous, although submitters have the option to reveal their identity if they prefer to have a person-to-person discussion.
"We're excited to partner with Socorro ISD, and to help their students submit reports in the digital world they live in, providing a safe and secure place for them to discuss difficult issues while increasing student safety," said Gregory Bender, President & CEO of K12 Alerts.
