Sodoma Law Receives Peer Recognition for Outstanding Attorneys, Pro Bono Services
Three awards include Super Lawyers Recognition for Penelope Hefner as a Rising Star
CHARLOTTE, N.C., Feb. 10, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- Sodoma Law, a family-focused and family-driven firm with a multi-disciplinary approach, is proud to announce multiple recent honors for the firm. Attorney Penelope Hefner was chosen as a Rising Star and firm founder and attorney Nicole Sodoma was again named a Super Lawyer in Super Lawyers magazine's highly competitive, peer-selected list. The firm and its Sodoma Law Foundation were honored by the Mecklenburg County Bar Association for extraordinary pro bono service. Additionally, both Ms. Sodoma and Ms. Hefner were named Legal Elite, another peer-selected list, from Business North Carolina magazine.
"We are honored by our fellow attorneys' recognition of our work, particularly Sodoma Law's Rising Star Penelope Hefner," said Nicole Sodoma, founder and attorney, Sodoma Law. "She and our colleagues display an exceptional commitment to their clients, and to causes near to their hearts. It is wonderful to see that dedication recognized."
SuperLawyers2015
SuperLawyers is a rating service of outstanding lawyers from more than 70 practice areas who have attained a high degree of peer recognition and professional achievement. The selection process includes independent research, peer nominations and peer evaluations. This is the fifth consecutive year that Ms. Sodoma has achieved this honor, dating back to her naming as a "Rising Star" in 2011. A maximum of 5 percent of the lawyers in a state are named Super Lawyers, and no more than 2.5 percent are named Rising Stars.
Mecklenburg County Bar: Extraordinary Pro Bono Service - Outstanding Collaborative Project
The criteria for the nomination was to recognize a firm in Mecklenburg County "that has contributed an extraordinary amount of pro bono services, impact for justice or demonstrated a dramatic improvement in its pro bono services." Sodoma Law understands that the firm's foundation is firmly rooted in its family law practice area. Thus, each member of the firm is particularly committed to helping the children in the community, whether affected by divorce, domestic violence, or other issues. The firm also supports non-profit organizations with a similar mission. With the announcement of the formation of the Sodoma Law Foundation, the firm formalized its dedication and commitment to the community. Aside from its charitable endeavors, Sodoma Law donated 382 pro bono hours, representing 47 clients in 2014. This volunteerism is truly a firm-wide effort, involving attorneys, paralegals, law clerks, and legal assistants.
Business NC: Legal Elite 2015
The selection process begins by contacting 22,000 active members of the North Carolina State Bar, seeking their votes online at BusinessNC.com. Lawyers were not allowed to vote for themselves and could only vote for an associate or partner if they also chose an active lawyer from outside their firm in the same category. Though a record number of ballots were submitted, fewer than 3% of the state's lawyers made this year's list.
