Sorcerers, Fairies and Dragons Make Lake Louise Magical
Free Family Fun at 17th Annual Ice Magic Festival
BANFF, AB, Jan. 18 /PRNewswire/ - Every January for the past 17 years, the shores of Lake Louise host an impressive display of creativity and craftsmanship at the Ice Magic Festival. 12 professional ice carving teams from Canada, Armenia, the United States, The Netherlands, Japan, Russia and the United Kingdom will be converging this weekend at Lake Louise creating enchanting sculptures for this year's theme of Magical Madness.
Starting on January 21 the teams will have 34 hours and 300 pounds of ice to carve their works of art that reflect all that is magical and bewitching all set between the shores of Lake Louise and the enchanting Fairmont Chateau Lake Louise. Throughout the weekend other free family entertainment will be taking place including ice carving demonstrations, magic shows, the One Carver, One Hour, One Block individual speed carving event at the Lake Louise Inn, and the Little Chippers Festival at Samson Mall.
"The Ice Magic Festival continues to grow in popularity each year and with the mild forecast predicted for the weekend we are anticipating a larger number of festival goers," says Stu Back, director, in-resort services with Banff Lake Louise Tourism. "We encourage all who come out to enjoy the festival to cast their vote for the People's Choice Award and attend the awards ceremony on Sunday at The Fairmont Chateau Lake Louise."
With the recent snow-fall Lake Louise is looking more magical than ever and the conditions are perfect for cross country skiing, making some turns at the Lake Louise Ski Area, dogsledding along the Continental Divide or snowshoeing in fresh powder.
