The South American Automotive Supplier Report covers six vehicle-producing countries in the region: Argentina, Brazil, Colombia, Ecuador, Uruguay and Venezuela. These six countries have attracted varying levels of investments by carmakers and automotive suppliers, with Brazil having the largest vehicle production and Uruguay the smallest.
South America's automotive market is dominated by Brazil, which has the largest economy in the region and is ranked fifth in terms of vehicle production in the world, having produced 3.1 million vehicles in 2014. Although Argentina is the third largest country in terms of population, it is the second largest vehicle producer behind Brazil, having produced 617,329 vehicles in 2014 - ranked 21st in the world. This means that there is a big variance when it comes to economies in the region, both in size and wealth. Uruguay is the smallest nation in the six-nation group, in terms of population, but has the highest per capita GDP in the region.
These economic factors have also dictated investments in the automotive industry in the six countries, with carmakers focusing primarily on the two largest economies in the region, Brazil and Argentina. The other countries have managed to attract various levels of investments by carmakers and automotive suppliers, by targeting the vehicle export market. These exports are aimed primarily at the larger economies, Argentina and Brazil, and this creates a vicious circle of dependence, which is now negatively impacting the smaller vehicle-producing countries.
This report examines the macroeconomic situation in South America, including planned investment in infrastructure development projects and national automotive policy & plans. The report provides an overview of automotive industry & supply chain, as well as looking at the vehicle component industry as a whole. It lists investments made by vehicle component suppliers.
The report includes a series of 138 supplier profiles from suppliers either based in South America, or the localised operations of global tier-1 and tier-2 suppliers. These profiles provide you with relevant data on corporate strategy, investments, product offerings and contact information.
