Southern California Residents Join Together In Support Of Families With Critically-ill Children As Walk For Kids Returns In April
LOS ANGELES, March 3, 2016 /PRNewswire/ -- This April, southland communities and businesses are lacing up to support the annual Walk for Kids events which help raise funds for the life changing services and programs provided to seriously-ill kids and their families by Ronald McDonald House Charities of Southern California® (RMHCSC.) The family friendly 5k (3.1 miles) pledge events raise awareness and funds to help RMHCSC provide families with the stability and the vital resources they need to focus on what's most important – their seriously-ill child.
"Over the years we've seen Walk for Kids evolve into a powerful, community-driven effort that has helped raise funds for our programs," said Vince Bryson, chief executive officer, RMHCSC. "Last year, nearly 23,000 participants representing more than 1,000 spirited teams stepped up to raise more than $2 million. We wouldn't be able to provide the support families need during difficult times without the help of our corporate and individual supporters and we hope to see even more people come out to join us for this year's walk."
Walk for Kids 2016 will kick-off on April 3rd with four events taking place at: Exposition Park in Los Angeles, Honda Center in Orange County, Central Park in Pasadena, and Citizens Business Bank Arena in Ontario. Two additional Walk for Kids events will take place at Shoreline Park in Long Beach on Sunday, April 24th, and the California Living Museum in Bakersfield on Saturday, June 4th.
From March 21st – April 8th, McDonald's customers in Southern California can also support Walk for Kids by visiting a participating McDonald's restaurant and purchasing a "Big Red Shoe" for $1. The iconic paper shoes will then be displayed with the donor's name in a designated area of the restaurant. One hundred percent of the proceeds from the shoe sales will directly benefit RMHCSC programs.
