WASHINGTON, Dec. 6, 2010 /PRNewswire/ -- The world watches as the Southern Sudanese Diaspora register to vote in the January 2011 Referendum in Boston, Chicago, Dallas, Nashville and Seattle. These additional registration and voting centers, as announced by the Southern Sudan Referendum Commission (SSRC) on Sunday, November 21, 2010, will allow even more Southern Sudanese in the United States the chance to register to vote on January 9-15, 2011.

The US is one of eight countries outside Sudan where Southern Sudanese can choose to confirm the unity of Sudan or vote for the secession of Southern Sudan.
Currently, voter registration centers are open in Alexandria, VA (216 Peyton Street), Glendale, Arizona (St. James Roman Catholic Parish, 19640 N. 35th Avenue) and Omaha, Nebraska (St. Richard's Rectory, 4320 Fort Street). Registration at these three centers is ongoing until December 8, 2010.
Voter registration centers in DALLAS (10440 Markison Rd. Dallas, Texas 75238), CHICAGO (3245 N Ashland Avenue, #1, Chicago, IL 60657), SEATTLE (608 Maynard Ave. S., Seattle, WA 98104), BOSTON (61 Massachusetts Avenue, Arlington, Massachusetts 02474) and NASHVILLE (535 4th Avenue South, Nashville, Tennessee 37210) are open December 6-22, 2010.
Hours of operation for all centers is 9:00am until 6:00pm Monday through Saturday and Noon until 5:00pm on Sunday.
The USA SSRC representative, Mr. Benaiah Duku is encouraging eligible voters to participate in this historic process. "It's an opportunity of a lifetime," he says "Now, with the opening of five new centers in the US, Southern Sudanese all across America will have an even greater ability to choose their future." He further adds, "This is a unique situation for Southern Sudanese, one not to be missed."
