Treatment Center adds Service for Substance Abuse and Eating Disorders

ORANGE COUNTY, Calif., Aug. 23 /PRNewswire/ -- Sovereign Health of California, a premier behavioral health treatment center located in San Clemente, California, announced today that it has further expanded its evidence-based services by adding a neurofeedback component to its comprehensive treatment program.

Neurofeedback is a relatively new type of computerized biofeedback that alters brain chemistry by manipulation of brain waves with the use of established training protocols. The training activates healthy neurons to produce healthy neurochemicals.

A 2005 study published by The American Journal of Drug and Alcohol Abuse highlights the advantages of neurofeedback therapy in treating addiction. Eighty percent of subjects in this study were abstinent for one year post-treatment. The study noted that the success of its subjects may lie in neurofeedback therapy's ability to allow participants to better tolerate stress, anxiety, and anxiety-eliciting situations, which are evident during the initial phases of recovery.
