Spectrum Bridge Granted 12th Patent for Wireless Spectrum Sharing, Strengthening its Leadership Position in Next Generation Wireless Network Solutions
LAKE MARY, Fla., March 5, 2013 /PRNewswire/ -- Spectrum Bridge, Inc., a global leader in wireless spectrum management solutions that enable next generation wireless networks, today announced that the United States Patent and Trademark Office granted the Company its 12th patent. The patent, a "method for providing network access to devices" was co-developed by Peter Stanforth, a founder and chief technical officer of Spectrum Bridge. Of the 12 patents granted by the United States Patent and Trademark Office, two have also been granted International status to date, with a full international patent portfolio pending. The Spectrum Bridge team has developed and applied for more than 50 patents since the Company was founded in 2007.
This patent relates to a system and method for providing dynamic, intelligent network access to electronic devices using database knowledge of network availability. "Since the company was founded, we have been building a seminal patent portfolio and core technology around shared spectrum management solutions," said CTO Peter Stanforth. "We recognized that the model for spectrum management must evolve, or mobile market growth will hit a wall. Our growing patent portfolio and the solutions we've launched are based on our core intellectual property and further strengthen our leadership position in the spectrum sharing marketplace."
In November 2012, Spectrum Bridge engaged ipCapital Group, Inc. (ipCG), a leading IP strategy firm, to deploy a range of expert invention and IP tactics specifically aimed at accelerating the strategic expansion of the company's valuable IP portfolio. "Spectrum Bridge has made a significant investment in IP, and our role is to help ensure that it is robust as possible and advise them on the best ways to leverage these assets," said John Cronin, Managing Director of ipCapital Group.
The worldwide mobile market reached 7 billion subscribers and mobile data growth doubled in 2013, according to the 2012 Chetan Sharma Global Mobile Market Update. Industry experts are projecting continued growth with over 50 billion wireless devices by 2020. Yet the current spectrum available is not sufficient to support this growth that will result in a spectrum deficit unless underutilized spectrum is shared and re-allocated to meet the increasing demand. Spectrum Bridge's cloud-based solutions help solve this spectrum crisis by dynamically allocating and managing underutilized spectrum for next generation wireless networks. The President's Council of Advisors on Science and Technology (PCAST) report, "Designing a Digital Future," concluded that shared spectrum management solutions were the most effective way to ensure adequate spectrum availability in the future. The FCC has taken a number of actions in the past six months to support this direction.
"The global mobile market is anticipated to grow from $1.5 trillion to $4.5 trillion this decade," said Rod Dir, CEO of Spectrum Bridge. "This growth will be enabled by next generation shared spectrum networks. Our solutions, which virtualize spectrum, are at the core of solving the spectrum crisis. We will continue to innovate and build on the strong foundation of technology we've built and look forward to an exciting future as these solutions are adopted."
