Splunk Selects Doug Harr as Company's First CIO
New position reflects Splunk's view on the strategic role of IT
SAN FRANCISCO, Jan. 11, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- Splunk, the leading provider of operational intelligence software, today announced Doug Harr has joined the company as CIO, and will lead IT operations, expand the company's cloud strategy and provide senior-level input to product development. Harr will report directly to CEO Godfrey Sullivan.
The creation of the CIO position reflects the rapid historical and projected growth of the company and how Splunk has moved beyond its core IT roots to provide end-to-end visibility and operational intelligence for IT and the business.
"Splunk has expanded beyond our original mission of IT troubleshooting and investigation and is now being used in every department within IT, as well as business and web analytics," said Godfrey Sullivan, CEO of Splunk. "To support this evolution, we need a CIO who can lead and scale our IT operations and also evangelize Splunk's benefits from the perspective of an experienced CIO. Doug's background is perfectly suited to move us forward in each of these areas and we're excited to have him join our team."
In his new role, Harr will have full responsibilities for IT operations, web development and facilities at Splunk. He will also regularly meet with CIOs of Splunk customers to gain insight into their challenges and discuss how Splunk can help them address their IT challenges and better support their businesses. As a seasoned CIO, Harr will also contribute to the Splunk product direction and multi-faceted cloud strategy.
Prior to joining Splunk, Harr was a partner at Stratafusion, a management consultancy, providing senior-level IT consulting work for companies such as VMware. Before his work at Stratafusion, Doug was CIO at Ingres Corporation, an open source database company, and prior to that, at Portal Software. At both of these software companies, Doug extensively leveraged cloud-based services that enabled scalable, cost-effective IT infrastructures.
Doug's experience also includes working at Core Technology Group and FutureNext, Inc., leading consulting practices dedicated to deploying Oracle EBS, portals and custom web application development technologies. Doug began his career in IT as a programmer and datacenter manager at Hewlett Packard.
