St. Augustine Bed and Breakfast Celebrates 250 Years
Casa de Solana celebrates 250 years with a number of fun events!
ST. AUGUSTINE, Fla., July 29, 2013 /PRNewswire/ -- Casa de Solana Bed and Breakfast takes its name from the original residential owner, Don Manuel Lorenzo Solana, a member of one of the first Spanish families in St. Augustine FL. He was 23 when the British claimed St. Augustine in 1763 and was one of only eight men (all Mounted Dragoons of the Spanish Army) permitted to remain. He built a tabby house on the property that year and soon after married London-born Mary Mitchell with whom he had 2 children. That marriage soon dissipated, and with his second wife, Menorcan Mary Mastres, he fathered 11 more Solanas! Their house was well known to offer haven to Native Americans, injured soldiers, and any traveler in need of respite. Despite the harshness of the times, the Solana Family did persevere, clinging to the love. Today, Casa is a 10-room, full-service St. Augustine bed and breakfast, with that halo of love and residual energy still abound!
Guests and passer-byers alike love the seasonally lush courtyard with jasmine gone wild and an impressive collection of romantic cherub statuary, making it the perfect wedding venue. Over the years, many happy couples have begun their married life by exchanging their vows here.
As part of the 250th Celebration, Casa will host an Elopement Party on 11.12.13, starting with a midnight group ceremony and then a day full of individual private elopements. Each couple will walk the flowered courtyard to the jasmine-covered pergola for a private and romantic vows exchange. They will dance their way into married life right to the dining room and into the hands of Chef Amelia and a private table featuring a simple yet elegant hors d'ouevres plate; a gorgeous couples cupcake; chilled champagne; and a keepsake marriage certificate and music CD.
This year-long celebration will also feature a Weddings Expo & Fashion Show 9/29; Pets & Pet Parents Palooza Weekend 10/25-26; Cooky Spooky Casa Halloween 10/31; Mardi Gras Masquerade Party 12/14; and the 20th Annual B&B Holiday Tour Christmas Around The World (Casa theme – Christmas New Orleans Style) 12/15.
