Annmarie Stanesa, Glass Artist and owner of Stanesa Glass Art Studio, said her support for Beads of Courage comes from her passion to promote the arts and help others. She has been "playing with fire" since taking a bead class in 2006 and has learned to master heat control and how to manipulate the different colored glasses into art.
"Glass truly is a remarkable medium," Stanesa said, adding that for her lampwork beads, she will often finish them with metalwork, mostly fine or sterling silver and some copper.
"The glass beads made and donated by the artists and volunteers go into the hands of children coping with cancer and serious illness in the Beads of Courage program right here and at 150 other hospitals," Stanesa said. "By supporting Beads of Courage we get to help children mark milestones and tell the story of their treatment journey with beads that represent each procedure they undergo."
The September 15 National Beads of Courage Challenge Day is dedicated to making beads that are given to help children coping with serious illness record, tell and own their story of courage. The handmade beads are used in the Beads of Courage Program that is a form of narrative medicine improving the quality of life for more than 30,000 children throughout the United States who receive the program during active treatment for a serious illness.
