Stanford Latino Entrepreneurship Initiative Recruits First Fellows For Online Education and Empowerment
Innovative Six-Week Program To Help Latino Entrepreneurs Grow Large Businesses Begins October 17
PALO ALTO, Calif., Sept. 2, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- The Stanford Latino Entrepreneurship Initiative (SLEI) has opened applications for the first cohort of its Fellows Program. The SLEI Fellows Program is an investment in Latino entrepreneurs to scale -- i.e., to grow -- their businesses through an immersive six-week online program that will provide owners the education, networks, mentorship and access to resources necessary to grow their businesses, create jobs, and build a stronger economy.
"Latinos are quickly becoming the new face of entrepreneurship in the USA," said Remy Arteaga, the Executive Director who manages SLEI. "Several studies, including one by the Kauffman Foundation, support the fact that Latinos are creating more new businesses than any other group in America. We want to empower these entrepreneurs to grow large businesses."
Eighty Latino entrepreneurs from across the United States will be selected to become part of the inaugural class. For six weeks, the entrepreneurs will take a custom online course based on curriculum developed by two Stanford Professors, Huggy Rao and Bob Sutton, who are internationally recognized as experts in scaling businesses.
The course, entitled "Scaling Excellence Through Innovation", speaks directly to the scaling issue that research highlights as the key to the success of Latino Owned Businesses. The course has been customized to address the unique challenges Latino entrepreneurs might face in scaling their business by including interviews with Role Models, leaders in the business community who have grown large businesses. In addition to the customized curriculum, Fellows will be paired with a mentor in their region, who they will meet with on a regular basis.
Applications are due by September 15. The program will officially kickoff on October 17 at Stanford University with an event that will bring together the Latino entrepreneurs. At the end of the program, the 80 Fellows will take part in a Demo Day that will allow them to present their business to mentors, investors, and other leaders in the community.
More detail about applying to this program can be found on the website: www.slei.us. For further information, contact the Education Program Manager Ashley Tillman at 650-666-0079 or [email protected].
