WASHINGTON, March 28, 2017 /PRNewswire/ -- Janus Global Operations' (JGO) work to clear and dispose of ISIS-placed landmines, booby traps, improvised explosive devices, and other explosive hazards in Iraq has been cited in a U.S. State Department fact sheet detailing international cooperation to combat ISIS.
"The Global Coalition – Working to Defeat ISIS," March 22, 2017, fact sheet, released by the Office of the State Department Spokesperson, explains activities - military, civilian and humanitarian – to liberate people and towns from ISIS's grip and to allow Iraq's refugees and internally displaced to return to their homes and livelihoods.
The fact sheet spotlights the efforts of allied countries to fund programs, under the auspices of the State Department's Office of Weapons Removal and Abatement, to rid Iraqi territory of ISIS-related explosive devices and eliminate the danger they pose to Iraqi civilians so they can return to their homes and rebuild their lives.
According to the fact sheet:
"Ten Coalition Members are on tap to meet one-third of Iraq's demining costs through 2018. With generous U.S. and other international donor funding, Janus Global Operations has been able to clear an estimated 1.7 million square meters of at least 21,248 kilograms (nearly 47,000 pounds) of explosive hazards in Iraq's Anbar Province." The coalition is made up of 68 member nations. JGO's role is cited in the section titled, "The Civilian Effort: Stabilization, Humanitarian, and Economic Assistance."
