Statistics Indicated More Men Showing Up for Cosmetic Procedures
San Fernando Valley Plastic Surgeon Dr. Shervin Aminpour of Hills Aesthetics is seeing more male patients - and they're not all in show business!
LOS ANGELES, July 19, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- The American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery has reported that 2011 saw some 800,000 men receiving cosmetic procedures. That's roughly nine percent of the total number of surgeries and an amazing 121% increase over similar numbers from 1997. Those statistics seem to reflect what facial plastic surgeon Dr. Shervin Aminpour has seen in his practice at Hills Aesthetics, his clinic located in the heart of the Los Angeles' San Fernando Valley.
Of course, movies, T.V., and music are a crucial part of the Southern California economy and men in show business have always been more likely to receive plastic surgery. However, as entertainment has increasingly emphasized male attractiveness in recent decades, the general culture has become more aware of masculine appearance. So, it's no surprise that men are an increasingly large portion of the patients seeking rhinoplasty in West Hills and other Southern California areas. At one time, a plastic surgeon might have been somewhat surprised to meet a male client who was not an actor, musician, or media personality. Today, however, Dr. Aminpour is increasingly meeting men from fields far from the public eye.
Corporate lawyers, accountants, computer programmers, medical professionals, and even some construction workers have shown up at Hills Aesthetics seeking to improve their appearance. Yes, some men still profess a bit of mild embarrassment about being concerned with their appearance. Clearly, however, their desire to look better outweighs any outmoded ideas of masculinity that might have once limited the number of men willing to have "work" done. Even so, the number of males closely examining rhinoplasty before and after pictures and other examples of Dr. Aminpour's work continues to climb.
Dr. Aminpour has perhaps received somewhat more than the usual number of male clients because he is known for being able to put patients at ease. "I've had some clients who were recommended by their wives and girlfriends but, regardless, they all come to me because they know I do good work. They also come because I think sometimes they've heard that I make men feel comfortable about coming here. Just like women, men have always been concerned with their appearance, it's just that it's only recently become socially acceptable for men to actually do something about it. Just as men have been spending more time at clothes boutiques and hair stylists, it's only natural that more and more men are seeking out rhinoplasty, liposuction, and even botox injections. Who doesn't want to look good?"
Dr. Aminpour is, of course, more than just another pretty face in the world of cosmetic surgery. A board certified ear, nose, and throat surgeon and a member of the Academy of Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery, he has spent considerable time recently in Ecuador performing over seventy operations on children with cleft lips and palettes. He is also noted for his work on revising unsuccessful rhinoplasty performed by less skilled plastic surgeons.
