Sterling Capital Long/Short Equity Fund Adds Long/Short Consumer Manager
RALEIGH, N.C., Feb. 18, 2016 /PRNewswire/ -- Sterling Capital Management is pleased to announce the addition of Caerus Investors (Caerus) as a new subadviser to the Sterling Capital Long/Short Equity Fund. Caerus will manage a long/short equity sleeve focused on the consumer discretionary and consumer staples sectors. Caerus will seek to provide opportunistic exposure to companies in consumer-related areas such as retail, consumer electronics, Internet and media, apparel, hotels, restaurants, food and beverage, autos and airlines, homebuilders, and household and personal products.
Headquartered in New York, Caerus is led by Founder and Chief Investment Officer Ward Davis and Managing Partner and Co-portfolio Manager Brian Agnew. Davis was one of three founding partners at Trivium Capital Management, where he co-managed $940 million and led the consumer sector equities team. Prior to founding Trivium, Davis led the consumer team at Chilton Investment Company, where he was a managing director. Brian Agnew was previously a portfolio manager for JP Morgan's Proprietary Equities Fund. Prior to joining JP Morgan, he was an executive director at Stadia Capital where he covered consumer related equities.
"Our focus has been to partner with boutique, long/short equity managers with deep expertise in a given sector of the economy," said L. Joshua Wein, CAIA, co-portfolio manager of the Long/Short Equity Fund. "Ward and Brian clearly understand the consumer landscape. Further, we feel they have the team in place to capitalize on opportunities in a sector that is fertile ground for a long/short equity fund."
"We look forward to working with the team at Caerus. Ward Davis and Brian Agnew are highly skilled investment managers who have, collectively, spent nearly 45 years covering the consumer space. Together, they've developed a clearly differentiated approach to equity research, risk management, and portfolio construction and will represent a strong addition to the Sterling Capital Long/Short Equity Fund," said James C. Willis, CFA, co-portfolio manager of the Long/Short Equity Fund.
The Sterling Capital Long/Short Equity Fund was launched in December 2013. The fund allocates capital to five boutique sector-focused long/short equity managers covering consumer-, energy-, financials-, health care-, and information technology-related equities. The Sterling Capital Long/Short Equity Fund is offered in shares classes A, C, and Institutional.
