FT. LAUDERDALE, Fla., June 2 /PRNewswire/ -- CBSSports.com today announced that two-time NBA Most Valuable Player and self-described "football freak" Steve Nash will travel to South Africa to file a series of video segments and reports on the 2010 World Cup. CBSSports.com has partnered with Nash's video production company, Meathawk, to give fans around the globe a unique perspective on the world's largest sporting event.
Nash, who was born in Johannesburg, South Africa, will post a series of eight videos to CBSSports.com and the CBSSports.com page on youtube.com (youtube.com/CBSSports) and also upload daily photos, iPhone vignettes, and status updates on CBSSports.com's social media platforms while interacting with fans about his travels and Cup experiences. The videos, photos and commentary will be distributed through the official pages of CBSSports.com on Facebook (facebook.com/CBSSports) and Twitter (twitter.com/CBSSports).
"This project with CBSSports.com combines two of my passions off the basketball court, the beautiful game known internationally as "football" and video production," said Steve Nash. "I look forward to shooting some memorable pieces from South Africa and giving fans a unique and sometimes humorous look at the World Cup."
"Having a talent such as Steve Nash represent CBSSports.com is an incredible opportunity and we're all looking forward to seeing the work he produces from South Africa," said Jason Kint, Senior Vice President & General Manager, CBSSports.com. "Steve's sense of humor, unique perspective and access to some of the greatest soccer players in the world should make for fun and entertaining programming."
In addition to the video coverage, Fantasy sports fanatics will enjoy multiple game offerings on CBSSports.com. The 2010 World Soccer Challenge on CBSSports.com features a game which has divided all teams into eight tiers based on their world ranking and prior international play. Players then choose one team from each of the eight tiers that they believe will accumulate the most points throughout the tournament. Players can create private and public buddy groups and invite friends to compete.
CBSSports.com has also partnered with Fantasy Moguls for a cutting-edge new social fantasy game on Facebook. Galacticos South Africa gives players the chance to build their very own team to contend for the world title. Game players start with a team of low-ranked players, then play simulated matches against other users to earn reputation points and in-game currency. As players "level up", higher-ranked players can be unlocked and added to their teams. To move up faster, players may buy virtual goods to accelerate advantages in the game.
Supporting the video and fantasy games, both CBSSports.com and CBS Sports Mobile will provide extensive coverage of the 2010 World Cup. Located on the Internet at worldcup.cbssports.com and via the free CBS Sports 2010 World Soccer app available for the iPhone and iPod Touch, the coverage of the 2010 World Cup on CBSSports.com and CBS Sports Mobile will feature:
