SOLVANG, Calif., March 2, 2017 /PRNewswire/ -- Kyle Knapp has been appointed winemaker for Stolpman Vineyards, a renowned winery specializing in site-specific wines with a focus on unique varietals grown in the Ballard Canyon AVA of Santa Barbara County.
Knapp worked as Stolpman Vineyards' assistant winemaker from 2006 through 2009. He then made wine at neighboring producer Beckmen Vineyards, where he worked for five vintages. After returning to Stolpman a year ago, he spent 2016 transitioning into Stolpman's focused program. In the vineyard, Knapp worked alongside 23-year veteran vineyard manager Ruben Solorzano. Leading up to harvest, he re-familiarized himself with each micro-lot in the winery. Knapp coordinated the 2016 crush utilizing the advice and guidance of Sashi Moorman and John Faulkner.
Knapp comes full circle for the 2017 vintage, taking the reins as chief winemaker.
Knapp reflects, "My winemaking experience has evolved immensely over the past ten years and I am thrilled to return to Stolpman as winemaker. I look forward to working with our accomplished team on the exciting projects that lie ahead."
"We've made tremendous strides in both our farming and winemaking methodology, especially in the past five years," said Pete Stolpman, Managing Partner at Stolpman Vineyards. "Kyle Knapp will bring an elevated level of focus and experimentation to our program."
In addition to Knapp, Matt Nocas will assume the role of assistant winemaker, while Sashi Moorman will continue to advise on methodology, from fermentation to blending. Rajat Parr continues as Pete Stolpman's partner in the Combe label.
