SuccessEHS Client Among First in State of Michigan to Receive Medicaid Stimulus Funds
BIRMINGHAM, Ala., Sept. 8, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- SuccessEHS client Alcona Health Center is one of the first organizations in the state of Michigan to receive an incentive payment after successfully meeting the requirements for Year One of the Medicaid Meaningful Use incentive program. Alcona Health received a first-year incentive payment for each of their 30 eligible providers from the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services, resulting in one of the largest incentive payments received in the state thus far.
Located in northeast Michigan, Alcona Health Center serves four surrounding counties (Alcona, Iosco, Alpena and Emmet) by providing quality patient care in a family practice setting. As they began the attestation process, Alcona felt comfortable and prepared knowing that their efforts were supported by a fully-certified vendor. SuccessEHS provides its clients with numerous resources to facilitate achievement of Meaningful Use, including the functionality-rich Meaningful Use Dashboard, educational webinars, a Meaningful Use Toolkit, and monitoring of Meaningful Use compliance. SuccessEHS also helps clients take advantage of incentive funds by enabling them to begin tracking Meaningful Use within 60 days of contract signing. The staff at Alcona took full advantage of opportunities like these throughout their pursuit of the Meaningful Use incentives, and Dawn Cooper, Director of Reimbursement for Alcona Health Center, cites these resources as key to Alcona's smooth and successful attestation.
"It was very encouraging to know that SuccessEHS placed such an emphasis on maintaining current certifications, and that our vendor could help us achieve the Meaningful Use measures. We knew that with the SuccessEHS solution, we could generate what was required. We knew what the system was capable of, so that was promising," Cooper said.
Alcona also worked closely with The Michigan Center for Effective IT Adoption, the area's Regional Extension Center. M-CEITA collaborates with both vendors and health care organizations, lending their EHR expertise to further simplify the attestation process. "Our clients themselves appreciate that we act as a 'helping hand,'" said Patty Houghton, Michigan REC Direct Services Manager for M-CEITA. "We familiarize our clients with each step of the process and prepare them to successfully attest."
"The conversion to an EHR is difficult, but is essential to bring medical practices into compliance with quality, privacy and patient access requirements. With a robust system like SuccessEHS, and the Meaningful Use dollars, AHC has been able to support the staffing necessary to help all providers become comfortable and proficient with new systems. We are delighted with the support we have gotten from M-CEITA and SuccessEHS. Our ability to serve our patients has been markedly improved by using the electronic system to track needed services, chronic disease measures and patient trends. It's also been a great way for patients to become actively engaged in their own health care," says Chris Baumgardner, Executive Director for Alcona Health Center.
