Suicide: Theory, Research, and Clinical Perspectives the Focus of 2016 Austen Riggs Center Fall Conference
STOCKBRIDGE, Mass., Sept. 8, 2016 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- The Erikson Institute of the Austen Riggs Center is pleased to announce its annual Fall Conference for clinicians and scholars: Suicide: Theory, Research, and Clinical Perspectives. The day-long conference will be held on Saturday, October 15, 2016, at the Austen Riggs Center, and will focus on understanding the psychosocial and community aspects of suicide, and state-of-the-art assessments and treatments for the suicidal patient and for vulnerable communities.
"Suicide is a significant public health problem in the United States," remarks Jane G. Tillman, PhD, ABPP, the conference director and director of the Erikson Institute. "Despite an increase in research and understanding of both the risk and protective factors for suicide, suicide rates have continued to rise over the past fifteen years." Given these facts, Tillman organized this conference to allow clinicians and scholars to engage, explore, and come together around the most recent advances in this high-risk area of clinical work.
The conference will feature presentations by top researchers and clinicians in the field of suicidology:
- "The Interpersonal Theory of Suicide: Evidence Base and Clinical Applications"
Kimberly A. Van Orden, PhD - "Innovations in Clinical Assessment and Treatment of Suicidal Risk"
David A. Jobes, PhD, ABPP - "Suicide Contagion and Implications for Postvention"
Madelyn Gould, PhD, MPH - "Hope for the Hopeless: Cultivation of Hope in the Treatment of Patients with Suicidal Despair"
Mark Goldblatt, MD
