WASHINGTON, Feb. 8, 2012 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- On behalf our membership of employers and purchasers providing healthcare benefits for over 30 million lives, The Leapfrog Group is pleased that Secretary Kathleen Sebelius has called for public reporting in her announcement today, February 8th, on the Strong Start Initiative to reduce preterm births. As Leapfrog learned from our collection and reporting of the nation's only public data on early elective deliveries, transparency accelerates change. We saw significant improvement in the rate of early deliveries from 2010 to 2011 in our data collection through the Leapfrog Hospital Survey.  With leadership from the Secretary as well as the growing number of committed partners, we are confident that we will see even more improvement in the future. It is long past time we stop this unsafe practice of delivering babies prior to 39 weeks completed gestation.
