Support for Caregivers: Nonprofit Organizational Representative Payee Supports Caregivers and Beneficiaries in Need
SUGAR LAND, Texas, July 21, 2014 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Nearly 30 percent of the adult population in America (65.7 million) is responsible for providing care to someone who is ill, disabled or aged, according to recent studies by The National Alliance for Caregiving. The need for suitable caregivers, as well as caregiver support, is expected to grow significantly over the next 20 years, as the proportion of elderly individuals in need continue trending upward. CrissCross, a national organizational representative payee service provider, as well as other nonprofit organizations providing caregiver support, has begun expanding programs and services to meet the growing and unique needs of caregivers and their loved ones.
In addition to spending upward of 41 hours per week shouldering the responsibility of the day-to-day tasks of care recipients, more than 80 percent of caregivers also serve as representative payees, which is the person accepting the responsibility of managing monthly benefit income and financial management tasks. For many, the role of financial manager is one of the most stressful and burdensome care responsibilities. In fact, according to The National Care Planning Council, more than 80 percent of caregivers admit to jeopardizing their own retirement due to using savings to fund services for a loved one.
"At CrissCross, we understand that the work assigned to caregivers can be extremely stressful, and in many cases, taxing on the overall relationship," said Amie Darway, executive director for CrissCross. "That's why we are passionate about partnering with families to provide valuable help to caregivers, so they can focus on their most important priority — providing love and emotional support to their loved ones at a time in which they need it the most."
