"Great things come from humble beginnings and we couldn't have been more blessed through the years to have community partners, both corporate and individuals, recognize the relevancy of our mission in Southern California," said Tony Teravainen, President/CEO of STEP about this phase of growth for the nonprofit.
While conducting the organization's primary mission of providing active duty and veteran families financial grants in times of crisis and working with them through one-on-one counseling to develop a plan to achieve financial self-sufficiency, STEP has grown by more than 50% for the last two consecutive years with last year culminating in the delivery of more than $400,000 grants in support of 1,100 military family members.
"We have continually noticed the need to move becoming more prevalent as we creatively shuffled, even double-stacked, volunteers and staff to accomplish basic execution of programs. The upgrade in facilities allows us to better support our case manager volunteers, gives us a conference/training room to conduct some of our free financial seminars in-house, and provides us opportunity to distribute diapers, baby supplies and other young family support without the need to go to an off-site warehouse," said Teravainen.
With the move, the headquarters will remain central to San Diego County, at its new location of 9951 Business Park Ave, to best promote community involvement and outreach. The nonprofit is seeking any donations that offset costs associated with the move (i.e. office furniture). Please contact [email protected] if you can contribute.
