NEW YORK, Aug. 29, 2013 /PRNewswire/ -- SurePure (SURP), a global leader in liquid photopurification, today announced that it has entered into an agreement to purify Namaqua Wines, world-renowned for the production and export of quality bag-in-box wines.
Under the agreement, SurePure's technology will be employed to process Namaqua's grape juice concentrate, providing SurePure with an entry into the bulk wine market. By employing SurePure's technology, winemakers can reduce or eliminate chemical preservatives that are added to their wine, guaranteeing the wine's microbiological integrity. SurePure and Namaqua are currently working on the optimal treatment for their larger volumes of finish product.
A worldwide problem, that is becoming more prolific, is the infection of Zygosaccharomyces yeast and its ability to propagate regardless of what preservatives are used causing major spoilage problems in this industry. Furthermore, these yeasts cannot be removed in their entirety by ultra-filtration, thus leaving SurePure as the only method of preventing an infection. This is achieved through its ability to cause irreparable damage to the micro- organism deeming it unable to replicate and thus preventing infection. Namaqua Wines is minimalizing their risk of infection by treating their grape concentrate as this is a common place for Zygosaccharomyces infection.
