Susan G. Komen San Francisco Bay Area Award Recipients Honored
SAN FRANCISCO, Oct. 29, 2013 /PRNewswire/ -- The Susan G. Komen San Francisco Bay Area Affiliate announced four award recipients on October 26 at its 16th Annual Survivors Lunch at the Westin St. Francis in San Francisco.
Presented by Anita Brink, Susan G. Komen SF Bay Area Affiliate Board President, the 2013 awards chosen from throughout nine Bay Area counties included a vintner, physical therapist, volunteer and real estate company whose actions have focused attention on the challenges of breast cancer survivors and the importance of early detection to save lives:
- Hope & Inspiration Award - Cheryl Indelicato, third generation vintner and proprietor, HandCraft wines, was honored for her community and grassroots activities including the 2013 HandCraft Breast Cancer Heroes Campaign honoring inspirational individuals in the breast cancer community, as well as her proactive participation in raising over $100K to fight breast cancer by leading HandCraft teams in the Komen 3-Day and Race for the Cure 5K races in five states.
- Joanne Horning You Can Make a Difference Award - Julie Wong, PT, CLT, Julie Wong's ProActive Clinic in San Francisco, was recognized for her quest to find solutions to problems associated with breast cancer surgery, which has led to important discoveries in physical therapy treatments. The clinic has also raised $30K for breast cancer research.
- Volunteer of the Year - Antoinette Harris was honored for generously donating her time and talent as a breast health ambassador and helping Komen in its mission to provide information about breast health.
- Partner in the Promise Award - Pacific Union Real Estate was acknowledged for its continuing support and efforts to attract new business and community allies in the fight against breast cancer. The Bay Area real estate company was a race sponsor and fielded one of the largest Komen SF Bay Area Race teams again this year.
Komen is the largest grassroots network of breast cancer survivors and activists. This year's 16th Annual Susan G. Komen SF Bay Area Affiliate Survivors Lunch continued the tradition of honoring the contributions of time, talent and resources of Bay Area community members who go above and beyond the call of duty for the Susan G. Komen cause.
