Sweet'N Low® Supports National Childhood Obesity Awareness Month by Funding Community-Based Athletics to Keep Kids Active
Sweet'N Low Youth Sports Sponsorship Program is Accepting Applications from Teams Nationwide
BROOKLYN, N.Y., Sept. 17, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- Approximately 12.5 million children in the United States today are obese – a number that has more than doubled in the last 30 years, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). During September, which is National Childhood Obesity Awareness Month, America's favorite zero-calorie sweetener, Sweet'N Low®, is continuing its effort to get kids active by encouraging teams across America to apply for one of its Youth Sports Grants. In total, the brand is planning to award up to $150,000 in grants to eligible community-based youth sports teams.
The goal of the Sweet'N Low Youth Sports Sponsorship program is to encourage children to adopt active lifestyles—in addition to healthy eating habits—at a young age, as the first steps toward fighting obesity. This is the third year that Sweet'N Low will award grants to youth sports teams nationwide, and the brand wants teams to know that there's still time to apply. Each team that is selected will receive funding to help supplement the cost of uniforms, gear, training, registration fees or other program-related expenses. Any type of sports team– from swimming to hockey – with athletes ages 17 and under is eligible to apply for a grant. Details and the application for the Youth Sports Sponsorships can be found at Facebook.com/SweetNLow.
"This year, we're prepared to make our biggest financial commitment ever to help address the serious issue of childhood obesity in America," said Steven Eisenstadt, President and CEO of Cumberland Packing Corp., the manufacturer of Sweet'N Low. "We know that good habits start at a young age and we hope that by supporting community-based athletics through Sweet'N Low Youth Sports Sponsorships we can provide organizations with funding to help keep kids active."
