NEWARK, Calif., Nov. 5, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- Systems in Motion today announced the appointment of Mark Orttung to the position of Chief Executive Officer effective November 1, 2014. Orttung will succeed Neeraj Gupta, Systems in Motion's current CEO, who will be taking on the role of Executive Chairman on the Board of Directors.
"Over the past 4 years, since Systems in Motion was founded, we have created a strong foundation to build a large and differentiated software development services company. Now, it is time for us to build on that foundation and move to the next phase of our development. To ensure that we have the right leadership for the next phase of our company's growth, I am very pleased to announce the appointment of Mark Orttung as our Chief Executive Officer." said Gupta. "With the rapid growth we are experiencing and with the clear opportunity for Systems in Motion to scale faster, the time is right for a leadership transition."
In the past 25 years, Orttung has lead organizations in consulting, systems integration, and SaaS products. He began his career at Andersen Consulting–now Accenture–where he spent over 9 years. His experience at Andersen spanned software development, methodology development, launching the Institute for the Learning Sciences, launching the Palo Alto Center for Strategic Technology, and founding a SaaS company that was incubated at Andersen.
Most recently, Orttung was the President and COO of Bill.com, a SaaS offering allowing companies to automate their payables and receivables. At Bill.com, he led products (PM, engineering, quality engineering, data center operations), payment operations, customer support, sales, and channel marketing. Over the past two years, under his leadership the company grew revenue by almost 350%. Previously, Orttung held product and engineering leadership roles at Rearden Commerce (now Deem), GetThere, and Genesys. Genesys and GetThere both went public and were later acquired for a combined $2.25 billion.
Orttung holds a BS in Mathematical and Computational Sciences from Stanford University and an MS in Computer Science from Northwestern University. He is an inventor or co-inventor on over 20 patents. In his spare time, he is a die-hard runner, an avid fan of Stanford sports, an iOS developer, and a tennis player.
