Tamaulipas Presents Energy Blueprint: A Strategic Plan To Coordinate Development And Attract New Investment
Energy-Rich State Seeks to Create and Seize Opportunities in Mexico's New Energy Era
CIUDAD VICTORIA, Mexico, Sept. 10, 2014 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Egidio Torre, governor of the state of Tamaulipas, one of Mexico's most energy-rich states, today unveiled his Strategic Energy Blueprint for Tamaulipas (http://energia.tamaulipas.gob.mx), calling for public-private partnership and collaboration.
The governor presented the blueprint at a public event held at the Tamaulipas Cultural Center in Ciudad Victoria. Pedro Joaquin Coldwell, Mexico's Energy Secretary, Juan Carlos Zepeda, President of the National Hydrocarbons Commission, and Enrique Ochoa, Director General of the Federal Electricity Commission (CFE) were among the dignitaries in attendance.
"We are preparing Tamaulipas to be the energy hub of Mexico," Torre said. "The country's energy opening allows us to pursue new development and investment options and to create new opportunities for our people."
The Strategic Energy Blueprint for Tamaulipas outlines six major areas for government planning and coordination:
- Human Capital, Research and Technological Development
- Business Development and Investment Promotion
- Strategic Infrastructure
- Property Zoning and Environment Sustainability
- Civil Emergency and Risk Management
- Community and Social Integration
Mexico's energy history is rooted in Tamaulipas. The state's vast energy resources and existing base of energy infrastructure make the state a center of energy production and a likely magnet for new investment. Anticipating the important changes to come as a result of Mexico's energy opening, and recognizing the transformative impact that this opening will have on Tamaulipas, Torre tapped the expertise of state government officials, representatives from the state's institutions of higher education, workforce development specialists, job training entities, civil society groups, and private sector leaders to develop a strategic blueprint for the Tamaulipas energy sector. The resulting plan will enable Tamaulipas to capitalize on development and investment opportunities.
"This energy blueprint will help guide and coordinate our actions and ensure Tamaulipas realizes the great potential of its vast energy resources," Torre said.
In the coming weeks, Governor Torre will visit neighboring Texas to discuss Tamaulipas' blueprint and its energy sector with oil and gas industry leaders as well as state government and university officials. He will also tour the Eagle Ford region of South Texas to better understand the needs and resources—including supply chains, downstream infrastructure and human capital—required to support the kind of intensive development that has occurred in this shale rich play and that is anticipated to take place in the near future in Tamaulipas.
Tamaulipas is a resource-rich state with a central role to play in Mexico's new energy future. It is an existing hub for energy production and possesses abundant conventional, unconventional and alternative energy sources. Under Torre's leadership Tamaulipas has consolidated its status as one of Mexico's main logistics platforms and received record amounts of foreign direct investment.
