Taste of New York City for Fordham University Students, 'City Fresh Series' Spotlights Local Restaurateurs on Campus
BRONX, N.Y., Nov. 13, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- In a unique partnership with renowned area restaurateurs, Sodexo at Fordham University is bringing authentic and diverse tastes of New York City to students, staff and faculty. The dining services program, known as the 'City Fresh Series,' is based on student surveys which identify favorite flavor profiles and cultural dining preferences.
On November 27-28, Fordham Dining will host Chef George Wong, owner of two Chop Stix Restaurants in Brooklyn, New York City. Chef Wong offers a unique blend of modern Chinese and Japanese cuisine with a choice of popular American Chinese dishes. Chop Stix Restaurant was rated in the Top 100 Chinese Restaurants in the USA Award by the Chinese Restaurant News Magazine.
Chef Wong trained under some of the best chef instructors in the country like Chef Michael Vignapiano, Chef Eric Pellizzari, and Chef Frank Costantino. He won three gold medals at the ACF approved Culinary Competitions and one gold medal at the prestigious Salon of Culinary Art. After graduation, he was mentored by acclaimed Southeast Asian chef, Chef Robert Danhi.
From there, Chef Wong began to experiment with different styles and came up with his own modern style of Chinese culinary dishes.
Last month, Fordham Dining featured Chef Nayak, a restaurateur, author, and a culinary consultant in North America for organizations like Sodexo USA, ifoodTV, Whole Foods, Robert Wood Johnson Foundation and Recipe Demo. He started his epicurean journey from the Culinary Institute of America and today is one of the most sought after chefs for his unique style.
Fordham students enjoyed an extensive selection of Chef Nayak's specialties including Chicken Tikka Masala, Kerala Shrimp Curry, Chan Masala and Saag Paneer.
"What an incredible opportunity to showcase the world class chefs of New York City here on campus," said Brian Poteat, Sodexo General Manager at Fordham University. "Students are able to sample diverse cultural flavors from the city's best."
