Teach for Christ Opens Applications for Inaugural Class of Young, Catholic Educators in Service
Calls young adults from all over the U.S. to "serve, teach, love, lead"
MINNEAPOLIS, Jan. 31, 2017 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Teach for Christ, a nonprofit organization dedicated to elevating Catholic education by placing recent college graduates into schools as teachers, mentors, and coaches for a year of service, announced today applications for the 2017-2018 academic year are now being accepted. This will be the program's first full school year. The twofold goal of Teach for Christ is to help make Catholic schools affordable to all families and to build leadership and service skills in the next generation of young adults.
Current college students and recent graduates alike are encouraged to apply and join the dynamic team of educators.
"Teach for Christ aims to address the ever-increasing cost of authentic Catholic education, and the abysmal job market for recent college graduates, by creating opportunities for the next generation to serve Christ and their communities while learning valuable skills for life," said Richard Vigilante, Chairman of Teach for Christ.
Young adults everywhere are searching for job opportunities, but often find it difficult to get started or find their real passion. Serving as a Teach for Christ educator, young adults can gain on-the-job experience employers seek while learning to lead and build community.
"Our motto is 'docere est ducere' or 'to teach is to lead,'" said Kendra Posch, Executive Director for Teach for Christ. "Educators are trained to come into a school, and put the needs of the school first for the love of Jesus. They are capable, passionate, and energetic young people who are bringing the light of Christ to each student, every single day."
Depending on the focus of service, educators learn everything from lesson planning and leading a class, to representing their schools to Catholic business leaders and potential supporters in the broader communities in which they work.
"Our goal, ultimately, is to enlist not dozens, or hundreds, but thousands of young people every year, all over the country, in the service of Christ as a way of responding to the universal call to holiness," said Vigilante. "We are very excited to get off the ground."
