Tecogen Now Delivers Natural Gas Powered Cogeneration Benefits in the Dominican Republic
WALTHAM, Mass., Nov. 21, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- Tecogen Inc. announced that its natural gas powered chiller system is providing air conditioning and domestic hot water at the Amhsa Marina seaside resort in the Dominican Republic. Elca-Fricalanz, an engineering firm based in the Canary Islands, specializing in the implementation of clean, efficient energy strategies, installed the Tecogen Tecochill "DTx series" chiller which has been operating on site for the last several months. A second unit will be shipped to the site in the coming month.
These chillers are designed to help the resort reduce air conditioning and domestic hot water costs -- a significant part of its operating budget. Saving money on operating costs is critical for resort owners to help them stay competitive.
"We believe that Tecochill chillers are one of the best products on the market," said Gabriel Gonzalez Garcia, the general director of Elca-Fricalanz. "The system's efficiency saves our customer money -- we're estimating approximately half a million dollars annually. The durability and serviceability of these units make them ideal for consistent and dependable energy production. We had other options but chose the Tecogen product based on its savings potential and user-friendly design. We look forward to future business with Tecogen."
"This resort is the first site in Punta Cana to take advantage of liquefied natural gas (LNG) for its energy needs. Prior to LNG being available to the island, this site and most other resorts had very few energy options," said Robert Panora, president and COO of Tecogen. "In addition to projected financial savings that the resort will get from the conversion of the air conditioning from expensive electricity to natural gas, calculations anticipate that the use of the free hot water byproduct from the chillers will displace a significant amount of hot water previously produced using diesel oil, cutting their carbon output by almost 80 percent per year."
