LOS ANGELES, May 27, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- Vator, one of the largest professional networks dedicated to high-tech entrepreneurs, announced Friday that TekTrak won Vator’s inaugural Splash LA event on May 26. The Culver City, Calif.-based mobile security startup was chosen among 150 participants that applied to get onstage in front of some 350 attendees, consisting of entrepreneurs and investors, and high-tech influencers.
TekTrak was one of the top 10 finalists who gave a three-minute presentation, followed by Q&A from judges onstage. At the end of all the presentations, the audience chose their favorite.
The Splash LA event, which was held at the nightclub – The Highlands Hollywood - was the third round of a three-round competition starting online.
The first round was a popular round, meaning anyone could vote for their favorite startups. Voters were only allowed to cast one vote for one company. Of the 150 startups that entered, 15 of the highest vote-getters became semi-finalists and moved into the second round, where VC judges rated their favorites.
Here’s a list of the judges.
- Ron Bloom (Mevio)
- David Cremin (DFJ Frontier)
- Brian Garrett (Crosscut Venturers)
- Neal Hansch (Rustic Canyon Partners)
- John Hawkins (Generation Partners)
- Jed Katz (Javelin Venture Partners)

- Bruce Taragin (Blumberg Capital)
- David Travers (Rustic Canyon Partners)

Judges scored each startup on three criteria: novelty/innovation, market potential and team. The online judges included top VCs and angel investors in the LA and Silicon Valley areas.
The combination of judges' votes and popular votes resulted in the top 10 finalists.
The grand winner will be chosen tonight by the audience attending Vator Splash.
