TeleCuba Retains Wiley Rein as its Communications Counsel

MIAMI, Nov. 10, 2010 /PRNewswire/ -- TeleCuba Communications, Inc. ("TeleCuba") announced today that it has retained Wiley Rein to represent the Company in all its telecommunications regulatory matters.

Wiley Rein has the largest communications law practice in the country -- what The New York Times has described as the "brand name" of communications law. The firm employs over 275 attorneys, 40 of which are devoted full-time to the communications practice, which encompasses virtually all aspects of federal, state and international laws governing the telecommunications, Internet and media industries.

In October of 2009, TeleCuba was granted the license by the U.S. Department of the Treasury to install the first subsea fiber-optic cable between the U.S. and Cuba; the cable will originate in Key West, Florida, and terminate in Cojimar, Cuba. Construction of the cable is anticipated to begin in the fourth quarter of 2011. Coello said the planned fiber-optic cable would eliminate the low-quality satellite communication between the U.S. and Cuba. TeleCuba is still awaiting final approval from the Cuban government for the cable project.

TeleCuba also plans to introduce the first U.S.-based cellular service that has the ability to roam in Cuba. The company will also offer direct text messaging services from the U.S. to Cuba. TeleCuba was granted the license that allows for their U.S.-based cell phones to roam in Cuba by the U.S. Department of the Treasury in October of 2009. TeleCuba also possesses the only cellular roaming agreement between the U.S. and Cuba.
