Telluride Receives 29" of Snow with Additional One to Two Feet in the Forecast
Storm Conditions Return for Tarantino's Hateful Eight
TELLURIDE, Colo., Feb. 24, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- Winter God Ullr smiled upon Telluride this week, with a two-day storm that dropped 29" of powder on North America's #1 Ski Resort, as rated by readers of Conde Nast. Cheers, hoots and hollers could be heard from the trails below as skiers and riders on the lift above eagerly planned their next powder run. Telluride leads the Colorado resorts with the most snow in the past 24 hours, with more snow in the forecast for later in the week. Heavy snow is expected to return on Thursday, and continue throughout the weekend. Forecasters are calling for another one to two feet of snowfall for the Southern Rockies by Sunday night.
"The storm provided some of the deepest powder days of the year, and conditions are incredible all over the mountain," said Telluride Ski Resort President and General Manager Greg Pack. "With blue skies and powder skiing today, and another storm expected, it doesn't get much better than this in ski country."
Ullr listened, as Telluride called on the winter god during a recent ski burning ceremony held at Elks Park in downtown Telluride. The Telluride ceremony was not only driven by ski enthusiasts, but also by Quentin Tarantino, whose film, Hateful Eight, is set during a post-Civil war blizzard and requires snow to shoot. Tarantino and cast members including Samuel L. Jackson and Kurt Russell spoke and threw skis into the fire at the ceremony, urging Ullr to deliver snow. One week later, skiers, riders and the film production were rewarded with more than they could have hoped for.
The late February storms will create ideal spring skiing conditions in Telluride. For those who can't wait for March, ease of access into the destination makes it possible for visitors to hit the slopes as soon as possible. Skiers and riders can fly daily or multiple times daily from Denver, Dallas, Houston and Chicago, and weekly or multiple times weekly from New York/Newark, Atlanta, Phoenix (PHX and IWA), San Francisco and Los Angeles (two airlines). Ski and stay packages are available from $118 per person, per night.
