Tennessee Department of Education Approves Adoption of Carnegie Learning Math Textbooks and Software
PITTSBURGH, Oct. 3, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- The Tennessee Department of Education has approved Carnegie Learning's suite of math curricula as preferred basal instructional materials through June 2018. Adopted materials include Carnegie Learning MATHia® software for middle grades 6-8 and Carnegie Learning Bridge to Algebra, Algebra I, Geometry, and Algebra II textbooks and Cognitive Tutor® software for high school students.
All programs provide highly individualized, student-centered learning in a core basal implementation or as intervention and accelerated instruction.
"The consumable text aligns perfectly to the common core power standards in Tennessee and provides teachers with lessons that will increase their teacher evaluation score while providing high-level tasks in a collaborative, student centered classroom setting to reinforce the math skills needed," said Vicky Smith , curriculum & instruction supervisor, Cheatham County Schools. "The software motivates students to learn math, differentiates instruction to the individual needs of every student, and supports the mastery of mathematical concepts."
Based on more than two decades of cognitive science research at Carnegie Mellon University, Carnegie Learning mathematics programs align to the Common Core State Standards for Mathematics, the Tennessee Mathematics Standards, the five content strands of the standards set by the National Council of Teachers of Mathematics, and support research-based School Improvement objectives for improved student performance in mathematics.
In addition to adoption in Tennessee, Carnegie Learning® Math Curricula are approved instructional materials in the following 16 states: Alabama, Alaska, Arkansas, Florida, Georgia, Idaho, Indiana, Kentucky, Mississippi, New Mexico, North Carolina, Oklahoma, Oregon, South Carolina, Utah, and West Virginia.
