WASHINGTON, March 16, 2015 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- World-renowned tenor Anthony Kearns will sing at the American Ireland Fund's 23rd National Gala on Monday night, March 16, 2015, it was announced.
Mr. Kearns will sing "My Lagan Love," a traditional Irish song that dates back to about 1903 with the lyrics credited to Joseph Campbell. Besides Mr. Kearns, a long list of famous singers have performed "My Lagan Love" including John McCormack, Pete Seeger and groups such as Celtic Woman and Celtic Thunder.
Mr. Kearns, who sang at the Friends of Ireland Luncheon in March 2013 hosted by Speaker Boehner as part of a 1980's tradition established by then-Speaker Tip O'Neill, the late Senator Ted Kennedy and President Ronald Reagan, has also been invited to the White House reception on March 17, 2015 honoring the Irish delegation, said his publicist, Ms. Kirsten Fedewa.
Last month, Kearns headlined an Irish-inspired cocktail reception at Salamander Resort & Spa to support U.S. military families, with co-chairs former VA First Lady Susan Allen and Martha-Ann Alito, both daughters of military fathers, and Larry Michael ("voice of the Washington Redskins"), as Master of Ceremonies.
Mr. Kearns took the American television audience by storm in 1999 as the youngest member of the wildly popular musical group, The Irish Tenors with whom he has 10 CDs and five television specials.
Acknowledged as Ireland's Finest Tenor at the Dublin National Concert Hall's Silver Jubilee in 2006, he is a respected ambassador of Ireland to the world and has presented the music of his homeland across the globe. As a soloist, Kearns' performances draw from a wide variety of opera, folk music, and international favorites.
