Tens of Thousands of Attendees at One of the World's Largest Conferences Depend on New, Green Technology to Help Them Get Around
Found on attendees' smartphones, laptops and on stationary units, the Interactive Wayfinder serves as a personal guide and assistant at the Offshore Technology Conference.
HOUSTON, May 6 /PRNewswire/ -- With more than 550,000 square feet of exhibition space at Houston's expansive Reliant Park, it's a common occurrence for Offshore Technology Conference attendees to ask for help to find their way around. The Interactive Wayfinder has been providing them with immediate answers to their questions, in turn, offering some relief to conference volunteers and security personnel.
At the OTC, which started Monday and wraps up at the end of today, there are ten large stationary Interactive Wayfinder units located throughout the conference. Attendees search for exhibitors by booth number, company name or category and find the quickest way to the booth from where they are standing on the show floor. They also request information from exhibitors, browse and map session information, and find facility locations—all at the touch screen. A large screen on top of the Interactive Wayfinder displays the latest conference information and live OTC tweets.
The Interactive Wayfinder can also be used from any smartphone or laptop, offering on-the-go access to booth locations, a personalized conference planner and document requests and a program for taking notes.
First-time users of the Interactive Wayfinder have been giving it rave reviews. One attendee using a stationary unit commented, "This is great! So much better than trying to sift through a conference program." Another attendee was pleased to find out he could immediately find out where to buy a cappuccino.
The Interactive Wayfinder is a green technology. The average three-day tradeshow generates more than 1 million pounds of waste. GV Iyer, CEO of Prism Technologies, which developed the technology, points out that "With the Interactive Wayfinder, tradeshows and conferences are finding that they can gradually print and distribute less paper, therefore eliminating much of the paper used."
This is the first time the OTC is using the Wayfinder, but the product has been used successfully at large and small tradeshows throughout the country since 2006.
Prism Technologies, Inc., is an Atlanta-based company that specializes in interactive digital signage, creative services and content management.
