Terracotta Warriors March Out Of New York August 26
DISCOVERY TIMES SQUARE FEATURES AUTHENTIC TERRACOTTA WARRIORS AND HUNDREDS OF ARTIFACTS FROM ANCIENT CHINA AND FIRST EMPEROR'S TOMB
NEW YORK, Aug. 6, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- The final weeks are upon Discovery Times Square's blockbuster exhibition, Terracotta Warriors: Defenders of China's First Emperor. After receiving an unprecedented number of visitors since its opening in April, the artifacts will be returned to China after their final day in Times Square on August 26.
Including hundreds of artifacts dating back to 221 BCE, the exhibition features nine authentic terracotta warrior figures, standing more than six feet tall and weighing 600 pounds each. The life-sized clay soldiers were created more than 2,000 years ago with unprecedented craftsmanship to protect China's first emperor, Qin Shihuangdi, in his afterlife. After founding the first united China, Qin Shihuangdi was responsible for building and unifying various sections of the Great Wall of China and a massive national road system that has continued to evolve over centuries.
Since its accidental discovery in 1974, the Terracotta Army continues its legacy as one of the most sought after collections of artifacts from ancient China, and one of the greatest archaeological finds of all time. The exhibition was created and produced by Discovery Times Square in partnership with China Institute and provides a unique way of understanding China's history.
